Gauteng commits to Launch digital Construction Project Monitoring Platform

The Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development (DID) has committed to launch a digital project monitoring tool to enable key stakeholders and client departments to track construction and maintenance works throughout the building stages. The department has committed to launch the platform in first week of September 2024. During his Budget Vote Speech for GDID for the 2024/25 financial year, Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Jacob Mamabolo, announced that the digitisation of project management will provide stakeholders with key project information in the palm of their hands to foster transparency and accountability throughout the life cycle of projects. This will allow for timely interventions to prevent costly delays that could negatively impact the provincial government's finances.

"We are deliberate in our digitilisation of infrastructure delivery. The built sector still relies on manual, outdated reporting tools which often creates silos where project data is kept in spreadsheets and paper. With technological advances, we will be launching the new platform that will be a single source of truth for project data," said Mamabolo. The DID serves as the implementing agent for the Gauteng Provincial Government's (GPG) social infrastructure projects, which include clinics, hospitals, schools, and libraries, among others. The Department also manages and maintains immovable assets such as government office spaces and land on behalf of the GPG.

"The digital platform will serve as a repository where project data will be centrally stored and will empower key stakeholders and our client department with project data that will be accessible on digital devices whenever they require the information," concluded the MEC.
